First TPT Items! :)

Eeek! I am so excited, I finally created and posted some items on my new TPT site. I am brand new to the whole Teachers Pay Teachers selling thing...although I am definitely an avid buyer. Has anyone ever looked at their annual purchase statements? I'm advising you not to...you will be blown away at how much you have spent! (or at least I was) Oh well...it makes teaching fun!

Anyways, I would like to share some of my new products and am looking for some feedback on what to do better, change, etc. for them to actually sell! My Social Studies Newscast Project is one of my favorite projects from last year. Instead of Time for Kids, my 5th grade team decided to order a program called Social Studies Weekly. We were really lacking in our social studies curriculum and thought using this to supplement our curriculum as well as tying in some close reading/informational text strategies would work great! Along with the actual weekly newspapers, it comes with a teachers guide, online resources and various projects. My students really enjoy them!

At the end of last year, I decided we would switch up our SS Weekly's and my students created News Broadcasts using iMovie on their iPads. Each student had a different role and had to research and write their own script. Then came the fun part...video taping each other and creating a news broadcast! They turned out FANTASTIC and the students couldn't wait to watch each others!

You can find this project at my TPT store Here. I am hoping to this year somehow link it to an Aurasma or QR code inside the weekly and students can watch each others with a quick scan whenever they want! But....that is something I still need to work on!

Hope you enjoy! Happy Friday! :)

Back to School

Aww...a week off from nannying (my summer job) and finishing up my master's classes last week means working in my classroom. I hope I'm not the only one who secretly gets excited about that! It's been a busy summer so far with working and taking classes that I'm definitely okay with my little break! I took an intervention class where I had to tutor one of my former students as well as a common core class. We read the text: Be Core Ready: Powerful, Effective Steps to Implementing and Achieving the Common Core State Standards by Pam Allyn. I would check it out! You can also check out the weebly I had to create for it here:  http://shausmanccss.weebly.com/ (tons of work, but very informative!

I spent all day Monday cleaning out cupboards, throwing out old junk and reorganizing (all the fun stuff). I also spent a lot of time standing there staring at my room, thinking about how to rearrange the furniture...am I the only one who does that? It was definitely one of those days where it had to get worse (with stuff gathered in piles all over my room), before it could get better. At times it looked a tad bit like a disaster zone! ;) I suppose it has to happen as some point, at least it was during back to school week right?

Bins upon bins upon bins...what am I going to do with all of them? :)
I also spent a little time organizing some binders. I'm really trying to be more organized this year..I'm sure that is everyone's goal at the beginning of the year! It seems like it always gets more and more unorganized as the year goes on..hopefully that won't happen this year! (one can always hope..ha!) I organized my 5th Grade Reading Interactive Notebook from Nicole Shelby and my Morphology Dictionary and Spelling Lists from Ladybug Teacher Files! Two of my all time favorite products!

I also met with my team today and we got SO much accomplished...that will be for the next blog post! Now time for a little relaxation and some reading. Happy Thursday! :)

Hello Blogging World!

Here I am...the start of my very own teaching blog! After pinning like crazy, following ( or stalking) inspiring and creative teacher bloggers and purchasing WAY to much on Teachers Pay Teachers, I've decided to start my very own blog! I've been inspired by many others for the past few years so I thought I would just bite the bullet and try it out for myself! :)

I guess I should start by introducing myself. I will be starting my third year of teaching this upcoming school year. Therefore I am still getting a hang of this whole teaching thing! I am a 5th grade teacher from the land of 10,000 lakes (Minnesota) who: has a passion for teaching, drinks too much Caribou coffee, has a bit of a shopping addiction and loves to read! I absolutely LOVE teaching 5th grade and seeing my students grow from 4th graders into big (little) middle schoolers!

I am starting this blog as a way to "virtually scrapbook" all of the happenings in my classroom. Along the way, I also hope to connect with other educators and hopefully start some creating of my own! Thanks for visiting! :)
